Time to De-clutter

When my wife and I moved into our new house, I realized we have a lot of stuff. WAY too much stuff! While packing, and now unpacking, I have been trying to get rid of things I do not need, do not use, have outgrown, or are worn out. Looking at my clothes, I am asking myself the following questions: “Do I still wear this?” “Does it still fit me?” and “Is it still in style?” If the answer to any is no, I am trying my best to get rid of it. As I am placing my books on the shelves like they are trophies, I am asking myself “Will I ever read this book again?” If not, it is going to be donated. While going through the kitchen utensils and gadgets, I realized we have five whisks. I can’t imagine a cooking scenario where I would need more than two.

I am sharing this with you, because maybe you need to de-clutter as well. I know it can be hard to do, but once you have done it, it feels good. Having more space and less stuff to clean can reduce stress you may not even be aware that you have.

There is another type of de-cluttering: emotional and mental de-cluttering. Maybe you are holding onto some old anger, an old grudge against someone, or some self-anger. Maybe you are holding onto some guilt, or shame. It could be you are hanging onto some old worries, or continued unnecessary worry about the future. Like that old sweater in the back of your closet, maybe it is time to get rid of some emotional clutter.
