Life Lessons I Learned From My Dogs

I spend a lot of time with my dogs. Between walking, feeding, and playing, they are a big part of my life. The rest of the time while I am at home they are constantly with me; watching what I am doing, or just laying next to me. Spending this much time around them has taught me a lot of things, including a lot about life:

Lesson #1: Never miss a chance to take a good nap. Dogs sleep a lot, including lots of naps. Sometimes a well-timed nap is just what us humans need.

Lesson #2: Treat yourself. We have a variety of yummy dog treats at our house, and it never fails to please me to see the joy on my dogs' faces when they get a treat. Every once in a while, human readers, treat yourself. Whether it is a snack, a good book, a massage, or just some alone time, remember that you are worth it.

Lesson #3: Enjoy the outdoors. My dogs love to be outside, and one loves to sunbathe every chance he gets! Put that smart phone down and turn off the tv. Go for a walk, go to the park, enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Life is short, don't spend all of it on the couch.

Lesson #4: Be loyal and protective. I have a dog that would walk through fire for me. Would you do that for the ones that you love? Show the people you love that you are there for them, that you are loyal, and that you will protect them from harm.

Lesson #5: Try to love unconditionally. Dogs are really good at this, in fact I would say it may be their best quality. It comes so easily to them. For us humans, it is a little harder to do. Try to increase your level of empathy, understanding, caring, and acceptance of the people you love.  Show your love every day, and try your best to love them "no matter what."

That is all for today, my friends. Now go out and hug your favorite dog or human. I guarantee it will make you (and them) smile.
